KODUNGALLUR: Veteran actress Suhasini Maniratnam is making a grand return to Malayalam cinema with the new film titled ‘Ancham Pramanam.’ The shoot commenced on Monday, April 6, at Poyya near Kodungallur. The project was officially launched with Suhasini lighting the ceremonial lamp and giving the first clap, while Father Saji George Vattakkuzhi performed the switch-on ceremony.
Directed by Jai Dev and produced under the banner of Ruby Endeavour, ‘Ancham Pramanam’ is a psychological thriller set in the 1980s. The story revolves around a prestigious Syrian Christian family where traditional values are held in high regard, often making the women of the household feel sidelined. The film explores the unexpected twists that unfold within this realistic domestic setting.
Suhasini plays the central character, ‘Gracy,’ the matriarch of the family. Award-winning actress Kani Kusruti also stars in a significant role as ‘Annie.’ The film features an ensemble cast including Renji Panicker, Shebin Benson, Vinay Menon, Akhila Nath, and Bollywood actress Nimisha Elizabeth Dean, who is making her Malayalam debut. Nimisha, an alumna of the New York Film Academy, previously appeared in the Bollywood hit ‘Dil Bechara.’
The film stands out for its strong female-led technical and creative team. The screenplay is penned by acclaimed journalist and novelist Shiny Antony, a Commonwealth Prize winner. Other notable names include National Award-winning filmmaker Miriyam Chandy as co-director and veteran editor Beena Paul. With the music by Sooraj S. Kurup and cinematography by Sinto Poduthas, the film is a gathering of distinguished award winners. The production will be completed across locations in Kodungallur and Thodupuzha.
