ALAPPUZHA: Sree Narayana Dharma Paripalana (SNDP) Yogam General Secretary Vellappally Natesan alleged that there is a deliberate attempt to single him out and defame him simply for speaking the unvarnished social truths of the state. He clarified that facing such criticisms is nothing new to him, but emphasized that if anyone attempts to launch an attack against the SNDP, he cannot remain a silent spectator. The veteran leader made his hard-hitting remarks public through an editorial in ‘Yoganadam’, the official mouthpiece of the organization. Natesan stated that if exposing certain underlying social realities in Kerala was considered a mistake, he has resolved to carry forward that “mistake” with even greater vigor. He firmly reminded critics that neither he nor his organization would ever flee in fear when faced with empty threats.
Natesan maintained that as the General Secretary of the Yogam, he is merely voicing the genuine socio-economic anxieties and grievances of the backward classes, Scheduled Castes, and Scheduled Tribes, who constitute nearly half of Kerala’s total population. He asserted that he cannot stay tight-lipped when major political fronts in Kerala coddle the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML)—which he described as a thoroughly communal organization masquerading under a secular cloak—solely to secure or retain administrative power. He further alleged that a trend has emerged in Kerala where anyone who politically critiques or opposes the Muslim League is immediately branded and targeted as a communal bigot.
The senior leader went on to claim that there are orchestrated and deep-rooted efforts in Kerala to structurally suppress the majority Hindu population socially, economically, and politically. He pointed out that the visible and invisible presence of the Muslim League remains a driving force behind these maneuvers. Natesan explicitly stressed in the editorial that he has cleared the air multiple times regarding his stance, stating that he is not against the broader Muslim religious community but is strictly opposed to the political functioning of the Muslim League. He claimed that the composition of the League’s elected representatives, the personal staff of their ministers, and the key officials placed in departments under their administration serve as glaring evidence that they function strictly on communal lines once in power. He also added that they have not forgotten, and will never forget, the old controversial speeches delivered by the current League minister K.M. Shaji. Concluding his column, Natesan remarked that while other major political parties are deeply terrified of exposing the League on public platforms, he does not harbor such fears, expressing his absolute readiness to confront those attempting to label him communal.
