“DMO Failed To Understand Deepa’s Health Condition Post-Accident; Shared Mental Distress With Many”: Family Blames Kannur DMO.

Kannur: Protests intensified following the collapse and death of Deepa Lekha, a Health Inspector at the Chokli Family Health Centre in Kannur, shortly after receiving a transfer order. Members of the NGO Union boycotted work for one hour across all government hospitals in Kannur district. Deepa’s family came out strongly against the Kannur DMO over the transfer. Deepa, who took charge as HI five months ago and was a member of a left-aligned union, was transferred following a change in government. The NGO Union termed the death a murder. Deepa’s brother-in-law stated that she had difficulty walking after an accident two months ago and had personally informed the DMO about her condition.

After a post-mortem examination at Thalassery General Hospital, the body was laid out for public homage at the Chokli Family Health Centre. NGO Union members staged a protest holding placards.

Meanwhile, the family of Ashalatha, a clerk at the Kasaragod Endosulfan Cell who died by suicide, also spoke out against pro-government unions. Her husband Ajayan stated that Asha felt isolated by her colleagues and others following the change in government.
