SASTHAMKOTTA: A KSEB employee sustained severe injuries after being brutally assaulted while attempting to disconnect an electricity connection due to non-payment of bills. The injured staffer, V. Surendran (54), hailing from Mukulumpurath, Manakkara, is attached to the Sasthamkotta KSEB section. He has been admitted to the Alappuzha Medical College Hospital. The incident occurred around 11:30 AM. According to the police complaint lodged by Surendran, he was assaulted by former Panchayat member S. A. Nizar, a resident of Pallisserikkal, and his family when he arrived to disconnect the line over pending power charges. The accompanying lineman also gave a statement confirming that Surendran was dragged down from his motorcycle and beaten up.
Surendran, who fell unconscious following the attack, was initially rushed to the Sasthamkotta Taluk Hospital and later shifted to the Vandanam Medical College Hospital in Alappuzha for expert medical care.
In protest against the assault, joint trade unions announced that a protest demonstration will be organized in Sasthamkotta town on Tuesday. Meanwhile, the police have registered a case against S. A. Nizar.
