Actor Devan Quits BJP; Resigns from Membership and State Vice President Post.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Actor Devan has resigned from his primary membership and the post of State Vice President of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

He made the official announcement regarding his resignation during a function held at the Kanichukulangara Devi Temple. He clarified that his resignation letter has been prepared and will be submitted to the state leadership soon.

Devan stated that his politics is rooted in the philosophy of Sree Narayana Guru, which he felt unable to implement within the present setup. He added that he had faced several difficulties during the previous elections.

In 2004, Devan had floated his own political outfit, the ‘Nava Kerala People’s Party’, which he later merged with the BJP.

He had earlier clarified that he launched the party highlighting the lack of development in Kerala and decided to merge it with the BJP following discussions with Union Home Minister Amit Shah. He had also contested the 2004 Wadakkanchery by-election as his party’s candidate.
