SASTHAMKOTTA: The 11th annual Mynagappally Mannooravu Kathakali Festival officially commenced here, drawing enthusiasts of the classical dance-drama. Renowned film actor and director Madhupal inaugurated the cultural festival. During the inaugural ceremony, Ullas Kovoor MLA presented special awards to outstanding students and talented local artists, celebrating their contributions to the field of arts. C.R. Mahesh MLA delivered the keynote address, highlighting the historical significance of preserving traditional art forms. The event was presided over by Ravi Mynagappally, the president of the temple administrative committee.
A panel of prominent socio-cultural leaders, including P. Rajendraprasad, P.K. Gopan, Raji Prasad, S. Ajayan, Y. Shajahan, Sandhya Madhu, A.S. Amal, and Kalamandalam Prashanth, addressed the gathering during the session. Suresh Chamavila, the secretary of the committee, welcomed the dignitaries, while Prasad Mannooravu extended the vote of thanks to the audience and organizers.
The festival itinerary for Friday begins at 3:00 PM with the traditional Kelikottu announcement, followed by a seminar titled Through the Historical Paths of Kathakali, presented by Kurumpolil Sreekumar. At 4:30 PM, the festival will witness the Arangettam (debut stage performance) of eight students from the percussion wing of the Mannooravu Kathakali Training Centre. The day’s events will conclude with a grand Kathakali recital featuring the renowned play Nalacharitham Day One, scheduled to begin at 6:00 PM.
