THRISSUR/KOZHIKODE: A local Congress leader has been arrested for allegedly subjecting a 10-year-old boy to unnatural sexual assault in Thrissur. The accused, identified as Prakashan Kunnathuveettil, the Congress Guruvayur constituency secretary, was apprehended by the police. Following his arrest, he was produced before the court and subsequently remanded to judicial custody.
In a separate and tragic incident in Kozhikode’s Vadakara, an elderly man died after setting himself on fire at a Congress leader’s house due to the non-payment of his investment deposit. The deceased has been identified as Ibrahim Kutty, a resident of Thiruvallur in Vadakara. Despondent over the delay in getting his money back, Ibrahim Kutty had reached the house of Congress leader Sudheer, who is the director of the Kadathanad Labour Service Society, and poured petrol over himself before setting himself ablaze.
According to the police, the elderly man had approached the leader multiple times requesting the return of his invested money, but his efforts fetched no results. The police stated that extreme distress over the financial loss led him to take the drastic step. He was rushed to the hospital with over 70% burns, but succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.
