Fire at Mango Trading Hub in Kayamkulam: AIYF Alleges Illegal Carbide Lotion Use; Organizes Protest March.

KAYAMKULAM: The AIYF has raised serious allegations regarding a fire that recently broke out at a mango trading facility near Medamukku in the Kayamkulam market. According to the organization, the fire was caused by the improper storage of toxic carbide lotion, which is used illegally to artificially ripen mangoes and enhance their color. It is alleged that the chemicals were kept in cans under direct sunlight, leading to the ignition. In response, the AIYF Kayamkulam Constituency Committee organized a protest march and a meeting at the site.

The protesters demanded strict legal action against those who used such hazardous chemicals illegally and handled them with negligence, endangering public safety. They emphasized that using such toxins on food items poses a severe health risk to consumers and urged authorities to conduct immediate inspections and ensure compliance with safety regulations.

The protest meeting was presided over by AIYF Constituency President J. Sijumon, while Secretary M. Rakesh delivered the welcome speech. The march was inaugurated by Alappuzha District Joint Secretary Adarsh Shivan. District Executive Member Shuaib Mohammad and CPI Constituency Assistant Secretary Shiji were among the leaders who addressed the gathering.
