Thrissur: A bedridden elderly couple sustained injuries after a refrigerator exploded at their residence in Guruvayur, Thrissur district. The incident took place around 11:30 PM last night. The couple, who suffered from breathing difficulties due to heavy smoke accumulation inside the house, was rushed to the hospital shortly after the mishap. The injured individuals have been identified as Kuttappan (70) and his wife Ambika (65).
The couple woke up in the middle of the night after noticing thick smoke filling their home. Sensing danger, they immediately alerted their neighbours for assistance. Local residents reached the spot and safely evacuated the couple from the house. By that time, the refrigerator had completely exploded.
Although the couple experienced severe respiratory discomfort from smoke inhalation, authorities informed that their injuries are not critical. A preliminary assessment suggests that an electrical short circuit might have triggered the explosion. The impact of the blast was strong enough to cause cracks in the house walls and shatter the glass windows.
