High drama in Thrissur as food kit distribution sparks political row; BJP leader Devan was besieged by the protestors.

Tension escalated in Vadanappally, Thrissur, on Sunday as Congress and CPM workers staged a massive protest against the BJP, alleging that the party was distributing food kits to influence voters. The protest broke out in front of a godown under the Manalur assembly constituency. UDF candidate T.N. Prathapan and LDF candidate C. Raveendranath reached the spot, demanding immediate action for the alleged violation of the Model Code of Conduct.

During the protest, actor and BJP leader Devan, who was present in a nearby building for a party meeting, was besieged by the protestors and prevented from leaving. Following the commotion, Election Commission officials arrived at the scene, seized the food kits, and the police detained the godown owner. While T.N. Prathapan alleged that the BJP was using “appeasement strategies” including cash and kits, Devan refuted the claims, stating his presence at the house was purely personal for a tea break. The BJP district leadership dismissed the allegations as “false propaganda” born out of the opposition’s fear of defeat. District Collector Sikha Surendran confirmed that a police complaint has been registered and an interim report has been submitted to the Chief Electoral Officer.
