KARUNAGAPPALLY: The Karunagappally police have successfully apprehended two men accused of violently assaulting a commuter from Mynagappally and robbing him of his mobile phone and cash on the railway station platform. The arrested individuals have been identified as Harikumar (58), son of Krishnakurup, residing at Hari Bhavanam, Muthupilakkadu, Sasthamkotta, and Vinod (47), son of Yasodharan, residing at Binu Bhavanam, Kannanamkuzhi, Thamarakulam. The crime took place on the night of June 29, 2026, when the victim from Mynagappally was waiting on the platform at the Karunagappally railway station. The suspects cornered him, inflicted physical injuries, and forcibly fled the scene after snatching his wallet containing cash and his mobile phone.
Following the attack, the victim lodged a formal complaint at the Karunagappally police station. Although the police promptly registered a case and initiated a comprehensive probe, investigators initially hit a dead end with absolutely no clues or leads regarding the identities or whereabouts of the culprits. However, through a meticulously coordinated follow-up investigation involving local intelligence networks and technical tracking, the police successfully traced and captured both absconding suspects from their hideouts.
The successful arrest operation was carried out under the direct monitoring and instructions of Karunagappally Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) C. John. The special investigation tracking team was spearheaded by the Karunagappally Police Station Station House Officer (SHO) S. B. Praveen, and comprised Sub-Inspectors (SIs) Aneesh, Ashik, and Sujo, alongside Senior Civil Police Officers (SCPOs) Hashim, Shafeek, Jishnu, and Prashanth. The captured accused were produced before the local magistrate court, which subsequently remanded them to judicial custody.
