Chavara: The presence of a crocodile along the Ekkapuram banks of Ashtamudi Lake in Arinalloor under the Thevalakkara Panchayat has triggered widespread panic among local residents. Following the sighting, a forest department team reached the spot and conducted an extensive site inspection. The inspection was carried out by a team from the Konni Forest Station, including the SFO, under the leadership of Thevalakkara Grama Panchayat President S. Anil.
The emergency inspection was initiated after villagers reported seeing a crocodile in the lake over recent days. The forest officials visited various stretches of the lakeside to evaluate potential movement routes, check for footprints, study the geography of the waterbody, and gather detailed inputs from the residents.
Officials informed that monitoring in the region will be intensified over the coming days, and special surveillance mechanisms will be deployed if necessary to track any movement.
The forest department has urged fishermen and local commuters venturing into the lake to exercise extreme caution. Authorities warned residents against going near the banks alone or moving around the lakeside unnecessarily during late hours.
The Thevalakkara Grama Panchayat and the Forest Department are jointly monitoring the situation to ensure the complete safety of the residents, with officials promising further necessary action if required.
