Vietnam: A Malayali couple from Kollam was among the victims of a tragic boat capsizing accident in Vietnam. The deceased have been identified as A.C. Thomas, owner of Victory Business Group and a native of Kottarakkara, and his wife Lovney Thomas. The Indian Embassy in Vietnam has officially released the complete list of all 32 passengers and those who lost their lives in the tragedy. Among the 15 victims, two were from Kerala, three from Andhra Pradesh, and ten were natives of Tamil Nadu.
The accident occurred around 10:30 AM local time near the popular tourist destination of Phu Quoc island. The boat capsized and flipped over due to extremely rough sea conditions. There were 32 Indian tourists and four crew members onboard at the time of the mishap. Rescuers successfully saved 21 people, including three crew members and an assistant.
Local media reported that the speed boat carrying the 32 Indian tourists capsized barely 400 meters off the shore while en route from Hon May Rut island to An Thoi port. The region was experiencing severe sea turbulence at the time of the incident. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Rajnath Singh expressed their deep condolences over the tragic loss of lives.
