Munambam Land is Waqf Property, Those with Grievances Can Approach Court: Waqf Board Chairman M.C. Mayin Haji.

MALAPPURAM: State Waqf Board Chairman M.C. Mayin Haji has reaffirmed that the disputed land in Munambam is indeed Waqf property, stating that there is no ambiguity regarding its legal status. Speaking on the issue, he noted that the land was officially registered as Waqf in 2019 by a board of which he was a member. Emphasizing that the issue involves people’s homes and livelihoods, he urged the state government to intervene and provide necessary assistance, explaining that the Waqf Board can only act strictly in accordance with the law.

“The land in Munambam has already been registered as Waqf. If anyone feels the Waqf Board’s actions are unjust, they have the right to approach the court in appeal. Assisting those facing the loss of their homes is the responsibility of the government, and the state must step in to provide the required support. The Waqf Board, on its part, cannot take any further alternate action in this regard,” Mayin Haji stated.

The Chairman’s remarks stand in contrast to the stand taken regarding the issue. The Chief Minister had previously maintained that the controversial land in Munambam is not Waqf property and reiterated that his earlier stance remains unchanged. Further details regarding the government’s course of action will be clarified by the concerned department minister. Notably, the Munambam property was registered on the Central Government’s ‘Umeed’ portal for Waqf assets by the Waqf Board appointed by the previous administration.
