KOZHIKODE: In a major breakthrough in the case where a pregnant woman died after a car caught fire in Perambra, the police have found that the fire was pre-planned and deliberate. The police are currently focusing their investigation on the deceased woman, Sona.
According to the police, evidence has been obtained showing a woman purchasing petrol shortly before the accident. An investigation is underway to identify and confirm who this woman was.
An inspection has already confirmed that a mechanical failure in the vehicle was not the cause of the fire. The Motor Vehicles Department also verified that the fire did not originate from the engine. It is suspected that the fire broke out while petrol was being carried inside the car.
The police revealed that there were ongoing marital disputes between Sona and her husband, Rajin Lal. On the day of the accident, Sona was staying at a relative’s house. The police are tracking her movements and actions during the day before she left. Rajin Lal had come to pick her up later that evening, and the accident occurred while they were on their way back home.
Rajin Lal, who sustained over 60 per cent burns, is currently undergoing treatment. The police have recorded his official statement. According to Rajin Lal, Sona was sitting in the back seat of the car. He stated that he noticed the smell of petrol and asked her about it, but the fire erupted before he could get an answer. Considering all these factors, the police are conducting a detailed investigation.
