DOHA: Former Emir of Qatar, His Highness the ‘Father Amir’ Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, has passed away at the age of 74, the country’s Amiri Diwan announced on Sunday.
“With hearts steadfast in faith in God’s decree and destiny, the Amiri Diwan mourns the great loss to the nation of the late – may God have mercy on him – His Highness the Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, who passed away this morning,” read the official statement released by the Amiri Diwan.

മുൻ ഖത്തർ അമീർ ശൈഖ് ഹമദ് ബിൻ ഖലീഫ അൽഥാനി (74) അന്തരിച്ചു. ഞായറാഴ്ച രാവിലെയോടെയായിരുന്നു അന്ത്യമെന്ന് അമീരി ദിവാൻ അറിയിച്ചു. 1995 മുതൽ 2013 വരെ ഖത്തറിന്റെ ഭരണാധികാരിയായിരുന്ന അദ്ദേഹം പിന്നീട് മകൻ ശൈഖ് തമീം ബിൻ ഹമദ് അൽഥാനിക്ക് അധികാരം കൈമാറുകയായിരുന്നു.
