WASHINGTON/TEHRAN: The United States has concluded its third round of strikes against Iran this week, claiming to have hit 140 targets. Meanwhile, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stated on Sunday that it struck US naval logistics facilities and aircraft carrier refueling platforms at the Omani port of Duqm in direct retaliation for the American attacks.
US Central Command stated on Saturday that its forces launched this latest round of military actions after the IRGC allegedly attacked the M/V GFS Galaxy, a Cyprus-flagged container ship transiting the strategic Strait of Hormuz.
US President Donald Trump has given American negotiators a limited timeframe to reach an agreement with Iran, according to an Associated Press report citing US officials. The officials noted that Trump retains a broad range of options should diplomacy fail.
In a message delivered on Saturday, Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei declared that retaliating for his father’s death in a February 28 airstrike is a “national demand” and emphasized that it “will most certainly be carried out.”
President Trump asserted that 1,000 US missiles are currently aimed at Iran, with thousands more on standby. He issued a stern warning that Tehran would face overwhelming military force if it made any attempt on his life.
Following the killing of Khamenei’s father, IRGC figures and clerics have intensified calls for revenge, including calls to target Trump. However, US intelligence reports indicate that no new specific assassination plot has been detected.
