THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Leader of Opposition Pinarayi Vijayan on Saturday alleged that government hospitals in Keralam were facing an acute shortage of medicines and accused the UDF government of weakening the public healthcare sector to benefit private hospitals.
In a Facebook post, Vijayan claimed that essential medicines including paracetamol, IV fluids, and anti-rabies drugs were unavailable across government hospitals in the state.
He further alleged that supplies of 209 essential medicines and medical equipment intended for the current financial year had not yet reached hospitals. Among the drugs in short supply are antibiotics, cardiac medications, acidity treatments, and doxycycline, which is widely used to prevent leptospirosis.
