WASHINGTON: An American Airlines flight traveling from Dallas-Fort Worth to Newark was forced to make an emergency diversion to Baltimore late Thursday after a passenger reportedly turned violent and hurled racist and anti-LGBTQ slurs at fellow travelers.
The unruly passenger, identified as 67-year-old Arizona resident Arthur Lundeen, initiated a heated altercation mid-air and allegedly assaulted people on board. As his behavior escalated and posed a safety hazard, flight crew members and passengers intervened, using multiple loops of duct tape and zip ties to restrain him in a first-class seat. Photos circulating on social media show the man heavily taped around his wrists, torso, and head.
Following the mid-air incident, the flight made an unscheduled landing at Baltimore, where law enforcement officers boarded the aircraft and took Lundeen into custody. American Airlines confirmed the incident, emphasizing that the safety of passengers and crew remains their highest priority.
