Chalakudy: Thrissur District Collector Shikha Surendran has issued an order to immediately evacuate residents living along the banks of the Chalakudy River due to rising water levels. The Collector instructed officials to carry out the relief and relocation operations urgently overnight.
The water level in the Chalakudy River has currently crossed six meters, with heavy rains continuing to lash the region. The decision comes in light of the increased water flow into the river following excess discharge from the Peringalkuthu Dam.
The emergency measures were ordered assessing that the water level might rise further by night. The Collector directed that all people in flood-prone areas along the river should be shifted immediately to safer locations, relief camps, or relatives’ houses.
