12-Year-Old Girl Killed by Lightning Strike at Tourist Spot in Thodupuzha; Father and One Other Injured.

Thodupuzha: A 12-year-old girl lost her life after being struck by lightning while visiting Uravappara, a popular tourist spot near Thodupuzha in Idukki district. The deceased has been identified as Nafisathul Misriya, daughter of V.M. Afsal from Mudickal, Perumbavoor. Her father, Afsal (39), and another youth, Gokul S. Raj (26) from Mangattukavala, sustained injuries in the incident.

The tragic accident occurred around 6:00 PM on Friday. The family from Perumbavoor had come to Thodupuzha to spend their vacation. After visiting the local Summer Fest, they had gone to the Uravappara hilltop. While they were at the summit, the weather suddenly turned violent with heavy rain, strong winds, and intense lightning.

As they were rushing down to safety, Misriya and her father were struck by a powerful bolt of lightning and collapsed. Gokul, who was nearby and rushed to assist them, was also struck by the secondary discharge. Although all three were immediately rushed to a private hospital in Thodupuzha, Misriya succumbed to her injuries. Afsal, who is in critical condition, was later shifted to a hospital in Ernakulam for advanced medical care following preliminary treatment. (KN)
