Odisha Native Training to be a Pilot Drowns at Varkala Beach During Vacation.

Thiruvananthapuram: A 19-year-old student from Odisha, who was visiting Varkala for a vacation, drowned after being swept away by a strong wave. The deceased has been identified as Priyanka Sahoo, a student pursuing a pilot training course in Bengaluru.

The tragic incident occurred on Saturday evening while Priyanka was bathing in the sea with her friends. The group had arrived in Varkala on Friday to spend their holidays. According to reports, while they were in the water on Saturday, Priyanka and two of her friends were caught in a powerful undercurrent and swept away.

Local residents and fishermen immediately rushed to their rescue and brought all three women back to the shore. Although they were rushed to a nearby hospital, Priyanka was declared dead on arrival. The other two women survived the ordeal. Priyanka was the daughter of Bijaya Kumar and Mamta, residents of Khordha in Odisha. Further legal formalities are being completed by the local authorities.
