KOCHI: In a shocking case of medical negligence, an artery forceps was discovered inside the abdomen of a woman five years after she underwent surgery at the Alappuzha Government Medical College in Vandanam. The patient, Usha Joseph, a native of Punnapra, had been experiencing persistent health issues following her procedure in 2021.
On Friday, she was shifted to a private hospital in Kochi to undergo a specialized surgery to remove the metallic object. Taking immediate action, the Department of Medical Education has suspended the doctor who headed the surgical team during the initial operation. Relatives of the patient have expressed outrage and demanded a thorough investigation into the security protocols at the government hospital. (PTI)
