Oman Human Trafficking Committee Opens Awareness Office at Muscat International Airport to Educate Incoming Workers.

MUSCAT: The National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking (NCCHT) has inaugurated a dedicated awareness office in the arrivals hall of Muscat International Airport. The initiative aims to inform expatriate workers arriving in the Sultanate of Oman about their legal rights and facilitate direct access to relevant labor authorities when necessary.

The newly established facility forms a core part of the NCCHT’s strategic framework to raise institutional awareness regarding workers’ rights, strengthen preventive mechanisms against human trafficking offenses, and extend immediate, hands-on guidance to incoming workforce personnel.

The airport awareness project is structured for implementation in two distinct phases. Under the first phase, a high-definition digital interactive kiosk has been deployed, featuring the official NCCHT portal accessible in 13 languages. The digital interface displays comprehensive informational materials on Omani labor rights, hotline numbers, and contact details for various diplomatic missions and foreign embassies.

The second phase will involve the permanent deployment of a Ministry of Labour official at the counter. The representative will interact directly with newly arrived workers to verify key employment terms, including the employer’s registered credentials and agreed contractual salary, while briefing them on standard Omani employment regulations.

Speaking at the inauguration, Brigadier General Jamal bin Habib Al Quraishi, Director General of Criminal Investigation and Research and Deputy Chairman of the NCCHT, stated that the office represents a pivotal step in expanding public awareness and coordinating national anti-trafficking efforts to safeguard human dignity and rights.

Echoing these sentiments, Jasim bin Hamoud Al Maliki, Director General of the General Federation of Oman Workers and NCCHT member, emphasized that proactive protection begins at the point of entry. He noted that safeguarding labor rights should not merely be a reactive measure following a violation, but a preventive strategy that equips workers with accurate information the moment they land in the country.
