Oil Tanker Attacked by Drone Boat off Oman Coast; Indian Crew Member Killed.

MUSCAT: A Marshall Islands-flagged oil tanker, identified as the MKD VYOM, was targeted by a remote-controlled drone boat on Monday off the coast of Oman. The attack triggered a massive explosion in the vessel’s primary engine room, resulting in the tragic death of an Indian national serving on board.

The incident occurred approximately 52 nautical miles from the Muscat Governorate while the tanker was carrying nearly 59,463 tonnes of cargo. Following the blast, a coordinated rescue operation by the Maritime Security Centre successfully evacuated the remaining 21 crew members, including 16 Indians, four Bangladeshis, and one Ukrainian. They were taken to safety aboard the commercial ship MV SAND. Currently, the Royal Navy of Oman is monitoring the damaged tanker and issuing safety warnings to other vessels in the area to prevent further incidents. (Muscat Daily)
