MALAPPURAM: The Kanthapuram faction of Samastha has strongly reacted against Chief Minister V D Satheesan’s remarks that Kanthapuram A.P. Aboobacker Musliyar misconstrued Islamic tenets. Kerala Muslim Jamaat, the mass organization of AP Samastha, demanded through its Malappuram district committee that the Chief Minister immediately withdraw his statement and tender an unconditional apology. The committee expressed that such comments were entirely unbecoming of his position.
The organization urged Chief Minister V D Satheesan to gain a deeper understanding of the Holy Quran, the Prophet, and Islam. The statement noted that making public remarks without properly understanding Islamic history or context is unsuitable for the dignity of the Chief Minister’s office.
Earlier, while addressing the media following a cabinet meeting, the Chief Minister publicly rejected Kanthapuram’s controversial stance regarding women. He stated that Kanthapuram’s position is inappropriate for a progressive Kerala and that such remarks misinterpret Islam itself.
Meanwhile, CPM leaders like P.K. Sreemathi and P. Jayarajan had criticized Kanthapuram’s statement, whereas senior leaders T.K. Hamza and K.T. Jaleel defended Kanthapuram, creating confusion among party workers.
