Kozhikode: Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim met Indian Grand Mufti Kanthapuram A.P. Aboobacker Musliyar at Markazu Saqafathi Sunniyya in Karanthur, Kozhikode, to discuss educational and cultural collaboration between Markaz and Malaysian higher education institutions, as well as the welfare of the Indian diaspora in Malaysia. Arriving in Kozhikode after attending the BRICS summit in Delhi during his five-day official visit to India, the Malaysian Prime Minister was received at Markaz by working secretary Dr. Muhammad Abdul Hakim Azhari and secretary C. Muhammad Faizy.
During a ceremonial reception at the Markaz Convention Centre, Anwar Ibrahim was presented with the Excellence Award instituted by the Sheikh Aboobacker Foundation in recognition of his contributions to social reform, education, and humanitarian service. To honor the international Hadith recitation gatherings hosted by the Malaysian government over the past three years, Kanthapuram presented him with a handwritten manuscript of Sahih al-Bukhari. Following the event, Anwar Ibrahim, accompanied by Kanthapuram, visited the Madavoor C.M. Valiyullahi Maqam.
Addressing the gathering, Anwar Ibrahim conveyed warm regards from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the Grand Mufti, recalling their meeting at the BRICS summit. He highlighted the historical trade and cultural ties between the Malabar coast and Malaysia, emphasizing the importance of interfaith harmony and mutual respect. Referring to his discussion with Kanthapuram regarding artificial intelligence, he noted that it was reassuring to see religious scholars engaging with the concept of “Responsible AI” to harness modern opportunities while addressing technological challenges.
