Kochi: The defense in the Abhimanyu murder case has filed a petition before the Ernakulam Principal Sessions Court requesting that the trial proceedings be conducted in-camera. The accused have urged the court to restrict entry to the courtroom, asking to exclude media personnel and relatives of Abhimanyu, and demanding a completely confidential trial. The court is expected to hear the petition today.
However, the prosecution opposed the plea, arguing that the defense’s request for a closed-door trial is merely a tactic to delay the proceedings. The new legal move comes just ahead of the scheduled commencement of the trial on October 15. The prosecution highlighted that although the court had summoned the accused 70 times so far, all the accused were present together on only two occasions.
