Kozhikode: The general discussion at the CPIM extended state committee meeting witnessed sharp criticism against the party state leadership over leadership norms and election review reports. A delegate from Thrissur questioned the appointment of V. Joy, MLA, as the Thiruvananthapuram district secretary, alleging a violation of established party guidelines. The delegate asked why an exception was made for Thiruvananthapuram when no other district allows elected representatives to hold the post of district secretary.
The rectification document submitted at the meeting also drew severe flak from the members. While both central and state committee reports had previously identified leadership lapses in the electoral defeats at Taliparamba and Payyannur, the latest discussion document omitted the failure in Taliparamba—where state secretary M.V. Govindan’s wife, P.K. Shyamala, was the candidate.
Delegates further expressed dissatisfaction over the leadership’s inability to effectively counter allegations of a CPIM-BJP deal and highlighted a lack of clarity in dealing with community organizations. Criticizing the state leadership’s report as weak, members pointed out that it lacked the rigorous self-criticism prescribed by the Central Committee and failed to adequately address past mistakes.
