Body of 80-Year-Old Woman Found Tied and Weighed Down with Stone in Kayamkulam Lake; Murder Suspected.

ALAPPUZHA: The body of an elderly woman was recovered from the Kayamkulam lake with her hands and legs tied. The deceased has been identified as 80-year-old Thankamma, a resident of Kanakakkunnu, who went missing two days ago. The body was deliberately weighed down into the water using a heavy stone. The police have launched a detailed investigation on the strong suspicion of murder.

Thankamma, who lived alone, had been missing for the last two days, prompting neighbors to alert her children. Yesterday, her daughter checked the house but could not find any trace of her. Subsequently, the family approached the Kanakakkunnu police station and filed a missing person’s report. While the police search was underway, local fishermen spotted the body floating in the middle of the lake on Tuesday morning.

Upon inspecting the spot, the police found that the victim’s limbs were tightly bound and the body was anchored to the lakebed with a stone. Preliminary investigation suggests that the culprits dumped the body in the lake after committing the murder to destroy evidence. Since no ornaments were found on her body, authorities are also investigating whether a robbery attempt led to the murder.
