Doha: Several loud booms were heard across Qatar sky, Doha, while a government security alert was dispatched directly to residents’ mobile phones, according to eyewitness reports. The precise source and cause of the sounds were not immediately clear.
Journalists from AFP in Doha also reported hearing multiple blasts as regional conflict escalated with Iranian strikes targeting US allies in the area. A public safety notification warned that the local security threat level had been elevated and urged residents to seek shelter immediately.
Following the blasts, Qatar confirmed that its military forces had successfully neutralized an incoming aerial threat.
“The Ministry of Defense of the State of Qatar announces that armed forces intercepted a missile attack which targeted the State of Qatar,” the defense ministry posted on X.
Iran has recently intensified its military operations against Gulf nations, targeting defense facilities housing US forces following American strikes on Iranian territory.
