Crane Topples at Mumbai Metro Site; Heavy Traffic Snarls, Rs 1 Crore Fine Imposed on Contractor.

MUMBAI: A massive construction crane toppled at a Mumbai Metro rail site in the busy Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) early Wednesday morning. The incident led to significant traffic congestion throughout the district, although officials confirmed that no injuries were reported.

Following the mishap, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) took strict action by imposing a fine of Rs 1 crore on the contractor, J Kumar Infraprojects Limited. The penalty was levied for safety lapses and negligence during the construction process.

The recovery operation to remove the heavy machinery continued late into the evening. MMRDA officials stated that traffic had to be diverted to alternative routes as the restoration work progressed. Efforts are ongoing to clear the site and normalize the traffic flow in the high-traffic business hub.
