NEW DELHI: Delhi Police has placed Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke under preventive arrest over apprehensions of a breach of peace, while All India Students’ Association (AISA) president Neha Bora was released following the completion of detention formalities. The police action came amid heightened security measures across the national capital ahead of the CJP’s proposed ‘Lehra Do Tiranga’ march in Connaught Place on Friday.
Dipke was detained while en route to participate in the march, which was organized to protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in electoral roll revisions and to demand accountability from the Election Commission. The developments mark a fresh escalation in the standoff between protesters and Delhi Police, which had denied permission for the gathering citing prohibitory orders, traffic disruption, and concerns over public order affecting commuters and traders.
Dipke was formally arrested after preventive action was initiated under Sections 126 and 170 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), and he is expected to be produced before a Special Executive Magistrate (SEM) court. CJP legal head Ratna Singh confirmed Dipke’s arrest in a post on X, stating that he would be produced before the SEM court while expressing concerns over his whereabouts and alleging that legal counsel had been denied access.
“The Delhi Police has taken Abhijeet Dipke to an undisclosed location. We have lost contact with him, and he is not being allowed to speak to his lawyers,” the CJP stated following his detention.
