Kozhikode: A complaint has been lodged against a relative of a woman’s husband following her tragic suicide, allegedly driven by continuous threats, blackmail, and extortion. Aparna, a native of Vakamoli in Arikkulam, died by suicide on June 19. According to the complaint, the young man—a relative of her husband Vijil—extorted money from her by threatening to send her intimate photos to her father and brother.
Under severe coercion and threats, the accused forced Aparna to take loans amounting to nearly ₹2 lakh through various online lending apps. Notably, Aparna had approached the Koyilandy police with a complaint four months prior to her death. However, the accused continued to harass and threaten her unabated, ultimately pushing her to take the extreme step, her husband stated in his police complaint.
The family decided to take formal legal action after recovering a suicide note left behind by Aparna, which contained shocking details of the continuous blackmail. Seeking a detailed probe into the circumstances leading to her death, the grieving family is set to submit official complaints to the Chief Minister and the Home Minister.
