NEW DELHI: A horrific accident claimed the lives of five individuals and left several others severely injured after a tanker carrying liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) exploded upon crashing into a toll booth in Uttar Pradesh’s Kaushambi district. The catastrophic collision took place at approximately 6:40 AM on June 26, and chilling CCTV footage capturing the exact moment of the crash surfaced this morning. The 24-second video clipping depicts two tankers approaching the toll lanes when one of them suddenly loses control, strikes a divider, and rams directly into the toll plaza structure. Gas rapidly leaked from the impacted vehicle—which was en route from Kanpur to Pratapgarh—instantly triggering a massive explosion with towering infernos reportedly visible from nearly two kilometers away.
A senior police official confirmed that all available fire brigade units in the district, alongside civil police personnel, were immediately mobilized to the site to battle the intense blaze. The tanker driver, identified as 40-year-old Dharmendra Dubey, and a toll plaza worker, Alok Singh, were killed on the spot due to the impact and subsequent blast. Multiple other toll plaza employees sustained critical burn injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital. Among the hospitalized victims, Anil Kumar from Prayagraj passed away during treatment on July 1. A day later, his co-workers—Hiramani Singh from Raebareli and Krishna Pal Maurya from Madhya Pradesh—also succumbed to their injuries. The devastating fire also swept through the parking area, completely gutting sixteen motorcycles and two cars.
