Former Nepal PM K.P. Sharma Oli Arrested Following Crackdown on Gen Z Protests.

Former Prime Minister of Nepal K.P. Sharma Oli was arrested on Saturday morning, just a day after the newly formed government led by Balendra Shah approved a probe commission report into last year’s Gen Z protests. Oli, who also serves as the chairman of the CPN-UML party, was taken into custody from the Gundu area in Bhaktapur district. The arrest follows allegations regarding the previous government’s handling of the nationwide demonstrations that occurred last year.

In addition to the former Prime Minister, police confirmed the arrest of former Home Minister and Nepali Congress leader Ramesh Lekhak from his residence in Suryabinayak Municipality. The implementation of the investigation report marks a significant move by the current administration to hold previous officials accountable for the tactical response to the youth-led movement. Both leaders are currently being held as the legal proceedings move forward. (PTI)
