Illegal Stay Under the Guise of Migrant Laborers; Bangladeshi Nationals Arrested in Kollam- Kerala.

KOLLAM: Several Bangladeshi nationals who entered India illegally and had been residing without valid travel documents for over nine years have been arrested in Kollam district. They were apprehended from different parts of the district following a coordinated operation by the local police. In Kottarakkara, a group of 10 individuals, including three children, were taken into custody, while a couple was arrested from Neendakara. The apprehended couple has been identified as Melan Khan (47) and his wife Mughal Khandal (42), hailing from Ward 4, Gulsha Gali, Bagerhat, Dhaka, Bangladesh.

According to the police, the individuals did not possess any legal permits or valid travel documents, including passports and visas, required to enter or stay in India. After entering the country illegally years ago, they moved through various states before arriving in Kerala ten years ago. In Kerala, they initially resided in Chalakudy for seven years before moving to Karunagappally three years ago. About a month and a half ago, they shifted to Neendakara. They earned their livelihood by collecting plastic materials and selling them to local scrap shops. By completely concealing their actual nationality, they managed to rent houses under the false pretext of being migrant laborers from West Bengal.

The group of ten intercepted in Kottarakkara followed a highly similar modus operandi to evade detection. The Kottarakkara police took them into custody from a location near a scrap yard in Karikkam. During subsequent searches at both locations, the police recovered several forged Indian identity documents used by the illegal immigrants. The police have registered cases against all the accused under the relevant sections of the Foreigners Act. Following their formal arrest, they were produced before the local court and subsequently remanded to judicial custody.
