Name Change on Ballot Rejected; Thrippunithura NDA Candidate Anjali Nair to Move High Court Again.

Kochi: The NDA candidate from Thrippunithura, Anjali Nair, is set to approach the High Court again after her request to change her name on the ballot was rejected by election officials. The matter will be brought to the court’s attention on Monday. Although the High Court had previously directed that her request to include the name “Anjali Nair” be considered, the Returning Officer (RO) declined the change, citing that the application was submitted late.

Reacting to the decision, Anjali Nair alleged that the Returning Officer completely disregarded the court’s directive. The official stand of the RO is that the request was submitted on March 31, by which time home voting and postal ballot procedures had already commenced. Consequently, the candidate’s name will remain as “Anjali P.V.,” as originally filed in the nomination papers. The Returning Officer further noted that there are no other candidates named Anjali in the fray and, since the ballot includes the candidate’s photo and symbol, there should be no issues with identification for the voters.
