KOLLAM: A habitual offender accused in multiple train theft cases made a dramatic attempt to escape police custody within the Kollam court premises. The accused, identified as Abhijith, was previously apprehended in connection with a series of train robberies.
Abhijith attempted to flee by evading the police officers and sprinting toward the court’s main front gate. However, an alert police team gave chase and caught him after a brief pursuit. The Kollam West Police have registered a case regarding the incident. Notably, this is not the first time Abhijith has attempted a breakout; he was previously nabbed after trying to slip away from custody.
Hailing from Paravur, Abhijith—popularly known by his alias ‘Vetta Abhijith’—is a notorious criminal operating across Kerala and Tamil Nadu, targeting railway stations and trains. His modus operandi involves purchasing valid tickets for AC train coaches, traveling alongside passengers, and stealing valuable items such as laptops, mobile phones, and gold jewelry.
Abhijith was last arrested by the police on July 1. He had previously escaped from the custody of the Tamil Nadu police in connection with another theft case and was engaged in a spree of burglaries before finally being tracked down and apprehended in Kollam.
