R. Sreelekha Likely to Withdraw Resignation; Deletes WhatsApp Group Message.

Indications suggest that R. Sreelekha may withdraw her decision to resign from the post of councillor. She has deleted the message sharing her resignation announcement on a WhatsApp group. Reports indicate that this change in decision follows strong conciliatory moves by the BJP leadership. Currently, the BJP leadership is attempting to prevent her from officially submitting the resignation to the municipal secretary. R. Sreelekha has not yet responded to the media regarding the issue.

Although she had earlier submitted her resignation to the mayor, she had not handed over the resignation letter to the municipal secretary. Around 11:52 AM in the Sasthamangalam ward group, she had messaged V.V. Rajesh stating that she was resigning as a councillor due to personal reasons on September 30, and that a copy of it would be submitted to the district collector on Monday. The message was sent while expressing profound gratitude for the support extended by the local residents.

Sreelekha, the state’s first woman IPS officer, joined the BJP after retiring from the police force in the rank of DGP. She was subsequently appointed as the BJP state vice-president. Although a section of the party was keen to offer her the mayoral post after she won from the Sasthamangalam ward in the local body elections, it did not materialize due to intervention from the central leadership. Later, she contested the assembly elections from the Vattiyoorkavu constituency but was pushed to the third place.
