KOCHI: Kerala paid a tearful farewell to veteran actor Salim Kumar as his mortal remains were cremated with full state honours on the premises of his residence. His sons, Chandhu and Aromal, lit the funeral pyre. Thousands of people from all walks of life rushed to catch a final glimpse and pay their last respects to the beloved actor. Chief Minister V D Satheesan and leader K C Venugopal attended the funeral services, alongside a vast gathering of prominent personalities from film, political, and cultural spheres who came to offer their final tributes.
Before the final rites, the body was kept at the Paravur Town Hall for public viewing, where thousands of people gathered to pay homage. Remembering the actor, Chief Minister V D Satheesan stated that the demise of Salim Kumar felt like a deeply personal loss, akin to losing his own brother.
In strict accordance with Salim Kumar’s final wishes, all traditional religious rituals were completely avoided during the funeral process. Following the public viewing at the Town Hall, Salim Kumar’s mortal remains were draped in the Congress party flag before being placed into the ambulance to be taken back to his residence. The acclaimed actor passed away on Saturday night at a private hospital in Kochi.
