THRISSUR: Eight people, including seven engineering students from Tamil Nadu, were killed in a devastating road accident at Kaipamangalam in Thrissur late Friday night. The deceased were students of PSNA College of Engineering in Dindigul, Tamil Nadu, who were on an educational tour to Kerala. The crash occurred near Panambikunnu Center around 11:42 PM.
Five of the deceased have been identified as Vishwa (20) from Salem, Surya (20) from Dindigul, Santhosh (20) from Madurai, Prasanna from Madurai, and Yuvasanjith (20) from Dindigul. Seven occupants of the vehicle died on the spot, while one succumbed to injuries on the way to the hospital.
According to police, a Tamil Nadu-registered seven-seater car traveling at high speed from Guruvayur towards Kodungallur rammed into the rear of a Maharashtra-registered truck parked alongside a national highway construction zone. Hearing a loud crash, the truck driver—who was sleeping inside—and local residents alerted the authorities. Fire force personnel and police arrived at the scene and had to cut open the completely mangled car to extract the victims.
