MALAPPURAM: CPI(M) Central Committee member and former minister P. Rajeev made a series of candid admissions regarding the political setbacks faced by the Left Democratic Front (LDF), stating that the coalition’s primary election slogan had completely failed and serious lapses occurred in handling SNDP Yogam General Secretary Vellapally Natesan. Speaking at a national seminar organized in Areacode, Malappuram, Rajeev pointed out that the aggressive slogan, “Who else is there but the LDF?” was not correct or appropriate for the political campaign. He also openly stated that there were severe delays and lapses in initiating swift, decisive action regarding the controversial Sabarimala gold heist allegations.
The veteran leader emphasized that the party organization has internally evaluated the slogan “Who else is there but the LDF?” as highly counterproductive. According to Rajeev, the party’s post-election review clearly established that this particular framing inadvertently cultivated a different, counter-productive consciousness and a sense of complacency among the general public and voters.
Reflecting on the administrative shortcomings, Rajeev stated that the party leadership should have intervened and taken punitive measures immediately when the Sabarimala gold controversy first surfaced. He acknowledged that during critical public crises, the leadership should not have hidden behind organizational technicalities, adding, “We have realized this mistake now.” However, he urged critics to look at the flip side of the situation, mockingly pointing out that the very individual who originally claimed that not a single gram of gold was lost from Sabarimala has now been put in charge by the government to defend its stance on the matter.
Rajeev made these self-critical disclosures while addressing the audience on the topic of ‘Renaissance, Democracy, and Development’ at the ongoing ‘World of EMS’ national seminar in Areacode. He further admitted that there were organizational deficiencies on the party’s part when it intervened in the SIR issue. Wrapping up his critique, the senior leader bluntly noted that the claim that various class and mass organizations operate with complete structural independence from the party core often remains a reality only within official organizational documents.
