KOCHI: ‘Madhuram Veppu’, a traditional pre-wedding celebration highly integral to the Christian community, is forming the vibrant backdrop for an upcoming Malayalam feature film. Titled ‘Madhuram Veppu’, the movie is written and directed by Santhosh Idukki, who previously garnered attention for scripting the film ‘Koodothram’. Backed by Libya Sebastian under the banner of Actors Factory, the movie’s formal pooja, title launch, and switch-on ceremony were grandly celebrated on Monday, June 8, at the Arctic Gold Hotel in Vyttila, Kochi. Acclaimed director Sibi Malayil inaugurated the project by lighting the ceremonial lamp.
Prominent distributor and producer Listin Stephen officially unveiled the title look of the movie, while versatile actor Santhosh Keezhattoor performed the switch-on duties, and Anil Mathew delivered the first clapboard strike. The star-studded event witnessed the presence of notable industry figures including filmmakers M. Padmakumar and Major Ravi, Film Chamber President Anil Thomas, alongside actors Baiju Ezhupunna, Marina Michael, and Latha Das, who offered their warmest wishes to the crew.
The story takes place during the traditional celebration held on the eve of a wedding, drawing in relatives, close friends, and people from diverse social backgrounds. The plot thickens within the wedding house around the property division plans plotted by the groom’s highly miserly father. Interestingly, the celebratory event of the ‘Madhuram Veppu’ ceremony turns into a catalyst that unearths several hidden secrets and mysteries. The makers have designed the film entirely as an engaging humor-thriller.
The movie features Baiju Ezhupunna in the central role, alongside veteran actor Siddique portraying another highly pivotal character. The extensive supporting cast includes Pramod Veliyanad, Sreejith Ravi, Bheeman Raghu, Joji John, Major Ravi, Nandu Poduval, Sruthi Jayan, Marina Michael, Latha Das, and Libya Sebastian. Adding fresh energy to the narrative, around sixty newcomers selected through a rigorous talent workshop will be making their debut in this film. Vinayak Sasikumar is penning the lyrics, with music composed by Jaison John. The technical crew features Jismin Sebastian behind the camera, Jyothish Kumar handling the editing, and Rajeev Kovilakam as the art director. Other crew members include Jayan Poonkulam (Makeup), Kumar Edapal (Costumes), Rajeev Azhiyൂർ (Stills), Chacko Kanjoopparambil (Chief Associate Director), Sethu Adoor (Project Design), and A.D. Sreekumar (Production Controller). With filming scheduled to commence on June 12, the movie will be shot extensively across the scenic locales of Koratty and Angamaly. Sannjo Productions will bring the movie to theaters.
