KERALA: Today marks 15 years since legendary music composer Johnson Master left us. He passed away leaving behind a whole universe of timeless melodies.
For Keralites, living through life without Johnson Master’s music is almost unimaginable. Whether in moments of joy or grief, at least one of his songs remains an inseparable companion.
Johnson Master began his musical career as a disciple of the iconic composer G. Devarajan. He held a special affinity for the harmonium and the guitar.
He entered the world of cinema through Bharathan’s film Aaravam. He went on to compose music for around seventeen Padmarajan movies, including classics like Namukku Parkkan Munthirithoppukal, Thoovanathumbikal, and Njan Gandharvan.
The legendary works of filmmakers like Bharathan, Sathyan Anthikad, Kamal, and Lohithadas were also embellished with the signature Johnson touch.
Enchanted by the overwhelming charm of his compositions, how can music lovers ever fully come to terms with his demise? We will undoubtedly sing once more in our hearts: “Iniyonnu Paadoo Hridayame…”
