MUMBAI: A bitter breakup and revenge led to the unravelling of the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) Drug Inspector exam paper leak. Scorned after being dumped by his girlfriend whom he had helped clear the exam using leaked question papers, the ex-boyfriend turned whistleblower and leaked details of the malpractice to the commission. In connection with the incident, police have arrested six persons, including three MPSC officials, and the recruitment process for Drug Inspectors has been completely cancelled.
The screening exam for the Drug Inspector (Group-B) posts in Maharashtra was conducted on March 22. Candidate Rutuja Patil cleared the exam and secured a position on the final merit list using the question paper obtained prior to the examination. However, following her success, Rutuja ended her relationship with her boyfriend, Gaurav Rajendra Patil, after her family refused to consent to their marriage. Enraged by the rejection, Gaurav sent an email complaint to the MPSC highlighting the paper leak. Although he later tried to backtrack and withdraw the complaint, an investigation had already been initiated.
