SASTHAMKOTTA: In a shocking incident, an audacious burglary was reported from Mynagappally, where a locked house belonging to Sreelayam Srinivasan, the former General Secretary of the SNDP Kunnathoor Union, was broken into. The targeted house is located at the prominent Udaya Junction. Srinivasan and his family have been residing in Switzerland with their son for the past six months, leaving the residential property completely locked and unoccupied.
A relative and immediate neighbour named Radhakrishnan had been entrusted with looking after the property in the family’s absence. Radhakrishnan had last visited and inspected the house two or three days ago. However, on Monday, when Radhakrishnan returned to the premises to note down the house number as part of an ongoing national census drive, he was shocked to find the main front door completely smashed open. He immediately alerted other relatives and the local police, following which a police team led by Sasthamkotta Sub-Inspector (SI) Sreejith rushed to the spot to conduct a detailed forensic examination.
The subsequent inspection revealed that the perpetrators had not only broken the main entrance but had also destroyed the doors of the inner rooms and the kitchen area. All the almirahs inside the house were found pried open and thoroughly ransacked. There were also distinct signs indicating that the burglars had comfortably consumed alcohol inside one of the rooms during the crime. To deliberately wipe out any digital footprints or visual evidence, the thieves disconnected and stole the storage hard disk and the main monitor of the installed CCTV surveillance system. Since the homeowners are currently overseas, the exact quantum of valuable goods and cash stolen from the house could not be immediately ascertained. The police have registered a case and a comprehensive investigation is underway to track down the culprits.
