Wayanad: Twenty-three years after a policeman named Vinod was killed during the land agitation in Muthanga, Wayanad district, a court has acquitted 56 out of the 57 accused in the case. The second accused, Ashokan, was found guilty, but no sentence was pronounced as he died during the trial. The court noted that Ashokan was the one who inflicted the final fatal blow on Vinod, which led to his death. The court further stated that the prosecution failed to prove the guilt of the remaining accused and could not establish any conspiracy in Vinod’s murder.
The verdict was delivered by Judge Ayoob Khan Pathanapuram of the Wayanad Principal District and Special Court in Kalpetta.
Meanwhile, in the attempted murder case of policeman Abdul Salam during the same Muthanga incident, the court found four persons guilty. Along with M. Geethanandan, the court held Binu, Rameshan Koyyalipura, and Anilkumar guilty. The remaining 53 accused in this case were acquitted. The trial in the case was completed and the verdict was delivered after a long wait of 23 years.
