Over 10,000 Maoists Surrender in a Decade as Insurgency Weakens.

New Delhi: A strategic combination of intense security operations and effective rehabilitation policies has dealt a major blow to Naxalism, which has been one of India’s most persistent insurgencies.

According to government officials, more than 10,000 Maoists have laid down their arms over the last ten years, following the elimination of top-tier leadership. The Union Home Ministry had previously set a target of March 31 to completely eradicate Naxalism from the country.

Official data regarding Left Wing Extremism (LWE) surrenders between 2014 and early 2026 indicates that 2,300 Maoists surrendered in 2025 alone. Furthermore, in the first three months of 2026, more than 630 cadres have already chosen to leave the armed rebellion and return to mainstream life. (PTI)
