KOCHI: A private bus employee was arrested in Kochi for blocking and threatening a family traveling in a car at Edappally Junction. The arrested individual has been identified as Ansar (27), a native of Kannur currently residing in Palluruthy. The incident occurred on the 9th of last month against Ernakulam resident Shaji Jose and his family, following which video footage of the harassment surfaced online.
When a team from the Ernakulam Town North Police station arrived to apprehend the suspect based on the family’s complaint, Ansar violently resisted arrest. ASI Sunil sustained facial injuries during the scuffle, but the police team successfully overpowered and detained the suspect.
According to police, the altercation began when the driver of the car honked at the private bus named ‘Alankar’ for abruptly stopping in the middle of the road to drop off passengers. Ansar, who appeared to be under the influence, blocked the vehicle and attempted to assault the occupants. Police revealed that Ansar is a habitual offender involved in multiple theft cases at railway stations and buses. Further charges have been invoked against him as the investigation expands.
